I heart Macau. Yes, I do. Even though people (expat people) living here longer than me, tells, I will get sick of it in 6 months or so. They literally tell me:
-Wait until you find out how small this country is.
Yes, true, Macau it's so small, it's like a pais de juguete, Toy Country (no offenses to my dear Macanese friends and residents) but like all good old toys is a fun one. Anyway, these days I happen to love Macau and can't help it.

Since we arrived (a month and counting) we're being living nothing but a honeymoon with the city. Easily making true friends (the kind of friends you trust will be there forever) practicing my extinct Portuguese, so far Obrigada (thank you) works well, drinking lots of vinho verde, Porto and eating insane amounts of bacalhau, tarta de natas and serradura.
Yes, I know it sounds very Portuguese to you and you may ask yourself:
-Where's the Asian Factor?. Well my dear amigos, it's here, is just it's all mélangée. Chinese-Cantonese-Portuguese Cultures are all mixed up, shaken and stirred, enhanced by a hot humid tropical weather with the not so occasional typhoon to produce a very rare cocktail: Macanese Culture or what I've called, the best part of the East meets West cliche.

A fascinating cocktail to observe at; by their looks you will frame them as Chinese-Cantonese but if you take a second look you can see the Portuguese genes everywhere: on their wider eyes (compare to Han Chinese) the broader complexion (girls are not as skinnier as in Mainland China and men they look more masculine (and please do not take me wrong)) their skin color, they are tanner (think almost as tan as me!) and the most fascinating for me: their behavior (should I say eating behavior?).

My people (yes, they are mine since Macau is mine) drinks espresso on the mornings next to a small bottle of cold Spring Mineral Water (Portuguese of course), they eat Chinese/Cantonese at Lunch (rice, veggies, pork) then from 2 to 5 they will have their beloved High English Tea with scones (British-HK influence) or Macanese Egg Tart (their version of tarta de natas) and Jasmine Tea or Taiwanese Milk Tea and if they do not have time for that, they will find time to make room to a quick treat consisting in a pork bun (think plain fried pork chop torta) accompanied by a tall iced strong coffee with milk. For dinner? Macanese or Portuguese Restaurants are the choice of rigeur. Is that mélange o quoi?.

To sum up our so far Macanese Affair, we have being welcomed in such a warmth way by this city (and it's climate) but also by it's locals, (meaning by locals Macanese-Chinese-Portuguese+Expats) that we just feel like fish on water. No, let me rewrite that last phrase. We feel like the goldfish and the lotus flower feel on the fish tank, that they belong to *that* specific fish tank. Like they're home.
Tell me how come after all this beauties I have the chance to live and experience everyday, how come I cannot love my Macau?. How about you?
In Spanish pliss!!!

Y, bueno, estos días I hapen to love Macau.

Acaso ustedes no sentirían igual?.
