Browsing through my old pictures files I stumble upon on these photos I did last year when we were visiting Shanghai and the World Expo.
I remember that particular day was a sad drizzly, breezy and overcast one but that didn´t stopped me to hop on what I have always considered the best transportation way between Pudong and Puxi (the two sides that conform the city of Shanghai and that are divided by the famous Huang Pu River); the ferry. It cost barely nothing (around 3 kuais) and for the short 5 minutes it takes to transport you from the dark side (Pudong) to the brighter one (Puxi) you also get the incredible opportunity to mingle with the local community.
Mostly hurried workers on their motorbikes, altought parents and granparents carrying their little emperors (only child-grandson) lovers and of course the ocassional lost tourist are the fauna one can find on these vessels.
Precious short five minutes to enjoy the ride.
It so worth it.

Huang Pu river long tour (about 2-3 hours). not my favorite, we did it once on a very sunny day and albeit the wonderful company, is not something I see myself repeting in a long time.
Waitan/The Bund a beautiful walkside along the Huang Pu River (Puxi). A real time machine travel to the posh twenties era. Buildings #3 (Three on the Bund), #5 and #l8 worth the visit for their architecture and the elegant restaurants and bars in there.
to eat (and drink)
The Bund is the Champs Elysees of Shanghai. Expect class, elegance and refinement with the accordingly prices.

a nice diner: Jean Georges ( bdg#3) and Mr and Mrs Bund (bdg#18).
a glass of wine: Glamour Bar (bdg#5)
a cup of tea: and a gorgeous afternoon tea at The Lobby The Peninsula Hotel. Very Old Shanghai Style!.
terrace: New Heights (bdg #3) and VUE Bar at Hyatt on the Bund.

Mientras observaba algunos archivos de fotos antiguas en mi ordenador, me encontré con éste set de fotos que tiré el año pasado cuando visitamos Shanghai para la Expo Universal.
Recuerdo que ése día en particular estaba muy fresco, húmedo, lluvioso, con brisita y nublado; pero ni esas condiciones metereológicas tan desalentadoras pudieron con mi espíritu viajero y me lanzé a pasear por el Old Town. Para hacer ésto tomé lo que yo considero el mejor medio de transportación entre Pudong y Puxi (las dos áreas que conforman la ciudad y que están divididas por el famoso río h Huang Pu); el Ferry. El trayecto cuesta casi nada (alrededor de 3 kuais) y por los escasos 5 minutos que dura ésta travesía que te transporta del lado obscuro (Pudong, el eje industrial ) al lado bueno (Puxi, el corazón cultural y artístico de la ciudad) se obtiene tambien la gran oportunidad de mezclarse con la comunidad local.
En su mayoría conformada por apurados trabajadores en sus motonetas (aguas cuando abran las compuertas, ya que los bikeros no se harán a un lado si te ven en el camino..), aunque tambien puede uno encontrar padres y abuelos cargando a sus pequeños emperadores (hijo/a - nieto/a único), parejas de enamorados y por supuesto el ocasional turista pasmado por el shock cultural son otras de las especies de la florida fauna que se deja ver en éstas ballenas mecánicas.
5 preciosos minutos para disfrutar de éste viaje.
Realmente lo vale.
Porque, ¿recuerdan? es siempre acerca del trayecto...
Cuál es tu medio de transportación favorito cuando te encuentras explorando una nueva ciudad o destino turístico?. Coche, taxi, moto, bici, tuk tuk, ferry o tren?. Qué factores influyen para que te decidas por un medio de locomoción por otro?.

Río Huang Pu, tour en ferry privado (alrededor de 2-3 horas), definitivamente no mi favorito,; lo tomamos sólo una vez en un soleado día, y aunque la compañía (amigos) en la que estaba era excelente, no es una experiencia que creo repetir pronto.
Waitan/El Bund una hermosa promenade (paseo peatonal) que bordea el Río Huang Pu y que es el telón de hermosos edificios Art Deco. Un paseo a hacer con zapatos cómodos, ojos bien abiertos, caámara en mano y el espíritu aventurero para hacer un viaje al Shanghai de los años 20´s. La época de oro de ésta ciudad. Todos los edificios son una belleza, y se encuentran muy bien conservados, pero recomiendo visitar los número #3 (Three on the Bund), #5 y #l8 los cuales en su interior tienen varios de los mejores restaurantes y bares de la ciudad. (ver recomendacions de donde comer abajo).
para comer (y beber)
El Bund es el Campos Elíseos de Shanghai. Así que a esperar clase, elegancia y refinamiento al por mayor con los precios que se asocian a éstos establecimientos. (Pero siempre muchos más barato que lo que costaría esa misma comida o cena en Europa por ejemplo)
Algunos de mis lugares favoritos del Bund son:
una cena agradable y rica Jean Georges ( edif #3) y Mr and Mrs Bund (edif #18).
una copa de vino : Glamour Bar (edif#5)
una taza de té: y un maravilloso afternoon tea en el The Lobby del Hotel The Peninsula. Muy Old Shanghai Style.
mejor terraza para disfrutar la vista: New Heights (edif #3) y VUE Bar en el Hyatt on the Bund.
