Hello amigos and welcome again. How are you?. I´m slowly trying to catch up on work, projects and house chores after a couple of days my husband and I took to unwind. During those days we just enjoyed what is one of Macau´s busiest weekends of the year.
Macau´s Grand Prix, Food Festival, Fringe Festival and even the Beaujolais Nouveau are held during the same weekend. These festivities assures the affluence not just of tourist but GP and food lovers (not that this city is in need to bring more money or tourists to town...).
Unlike previous years this time we had the chance to watch the GP from the pits area which gives a whole different perspective on the car races. At the Beaujolais Nouveau party we had so much fun speaking français with friends and members of the always growing french community in town (and maybe we had too much wine). To be honest the chance to enjoy and outdoor relaxed bbq party in the middle of November even if that means drinking dubious quality red wine is priceless.
We ended our busy weekend visiting the Food Festival and although we weren´t so keen on going since on previous occasions we´ve been disappointed by the lack of food safety conditions and the poor quality of the food offered. However we saw an improvement in both lines this year (yet, there´s so much to improve). I think this year´s festival enhancement owns to much to the Japanese Village, which set the bar really high for the following years´ featured countries.
We were really touched by the Japanese Village. I was so impressed on how a country which is surpassing tough times continue with their traditions (have you seen this?) and keep aiming for excellence. There was a big array of japanese snacks and food (noodles, yakitori, tempura, fruits, ice creams, desserts) and even a mini version of Tokyo´s famous Tsukiji Market!. Seeing the level of professionalism, the good quality of foods offerings and the pride and honor with which each one of the Japanese vendors carried themselves was just overwhelming.

Jelouuu amigos y welcome de nuevo.¿Cómo están?. Por mi lado yo me encuentro muy lentamente tratando de ponerme al día con trabajo, proyectos y deberes domésticos después de un par de diitas que mi señor marido y yo nos tomamos, cómo dicen los gringos un staycation para bajarle al stress en lo que para mí es el finde más ocupado de todo el año aquí en Macau.
Gran Premio, Food Festival, Fringe Festival e incluso la fiesta del Beaujolais Nouveau se entrecruzan durante el mismo fin de semana. Estas festividades (junto con el juego, la `industria´ número uno de mi ville casino) aseguran la afluencia no sólo de turistas (y gamblers) pero también atrae a los amantes de las carreras, el arte y la comilona.
A diferencia de años anteriores en ésta ocasión tuvimos la oportunidad de observar el Grande Premio como dicen mis amigos portugueses, desde el área de pits; lo cual da una perspectiva muy diferente a éstas carreras. Por otro lado en la fête du Beaujolais Nouveau nos divertimos como locos hablando français con los amigos y miembros de la siempre creciente comunidad francófona (y bueno, como que tambien tal vez tomamos mucho vinito). Para ser honestos, la oportunidad de disfrutar en pleno Noviembre de un bbq en un ambiente super relajado, entre copains, bebiendo vino rojo de dudosa calidad, pues es algo así como priceless.
Terminamos nuestro busy weekend visitando el Food Festival y aunque aquí entre nos la verdad es que la idea de ir a éste festival no nos seducía, ya que en ocasiones anteriores tanto las condiciones insalubres del manejo de los alimentos, así como la falta de calidad en los productos terminados dejaba mucho que desear, pues aún así nos lanzamos a la aventura. Cual sería nuestra sorpresa al ver muchas mejoras en ésta edición de dicho festival (aunque todavía hay muchas áreas de oportunidad). Como ejemplo pongo el Japanese Village, el cual realmente ha marcado un nuevo estándar en cuanto a calidad e higiene. (Estos japos son únicos, de verdad que yo los adoro)
Como decía quedamos muy impresionados con el Japanese Village. Mientras caminábamos por los diferentes stands de comida del país del Sol Naciente (que es el país invitado de éste año; por eso todo un village o pabellón dedicado a ellos) no dejaba de conmoverme el hecho de saber que éste país que no la ha pasado tan bien en éste año; aún así, estuviera ahí tan bien representado; continuando a mostrar su mejor cara, sus tradiciones, gastronomía (ya checaron ésto this?) siempre tirando hacia la excelencia. Hay una gran selección de snacks y comida japonesa (noodles, sushi bar, yakitori, robitayaki, tempura, fruta, helados, postres) e incluso una versión mini del super famoso Tsukiji Market! de Tokyo. Ver éste nivel de profesionalismo, la calidad de la oferta gastronómica aunado al orgullo y honor con que cada marchante se desenvuelve es realmente sobrecogedor.
